## Purchasing a Tow Vehicle
After purchasing a travel trailer, I needed a truck capable of towing it. I initially purchased a 2021 Nissan Titan gasoline model, which performed well and met my needs.
That truck was later totaled in Kentucky during a rainy-day accident. After searching for a replacement, I purchased a **2016 Nissan Titan XD Platinum Reserve Diesel** from Carvana in October 2024. This timeline documents the events that followed.
## October 4, 2024 — Vehicle Delivery
The Carvana delivery arrived more than two hours later than scheduled.
Upon inspection, I noticed that the original premium floor mats had been replaced with inexpensive aftermarket mats.
While the driver was backing the truck off the transport trailer, the **Check Engine Light illuminated**. The driver stated:
> "I thought we turned that off for the inspection."
Look closely at that photo, see the RPM is around 600, and then notice all of those lights that are on, including the check engine light? Also notice the truck in front of the windshield, looks like the Carvana Truck from the first photo.
This statement was captured by my personal AI recording system, and additional video evidence exists from my apartment building. These recordings are being preserved as evidence and are not being publicly released at this time.
The driver connected a diagnostic scanner and advised that the fault appeared to be related to the EGR system, estimating a repair cost of approximately $500.
Although Carvana offered a seven-day return policy, exercising that option was not practical. Returning the vehicle would have required waiting several weeks for my deposit to be refunded before beginning another purchase, while I was preparing to relocate from Durham, North Carolina, to Phoenix, Arizona.
Additionally, the return policy contains a mileage limitation. While attempting to diagnose and resolve the issue, I exceeded that mileage limit on the second day of ownership.
## December 13, 2024 — Cross-Country Move This is a test.
I traveled to Vermont before towing my travel trailer to Arizona.
During the trip, I observed that the truck's fuel gauge indicated "Empty" after approximately **16 gallons** had been used, despite the truck having a **26-gallon fuel tank**. As a result, I was stopping for fuel approximately every 90 miles despite significant fuel remaining in the tank.
This condition existed despite Carvana advertising that the vehicle had passed its multi-point inspection.
## December 29, 2024 — Arrival in Phoenix
I arrived in Phoenix after completing the cross-country move.
Throughout the trip, I continued refueling far more frequently than necessary because the fuel gauge consistently indicated an empty tank with approximately ten gallons of fuel still remaining.
## January 29, 2025 — Shifter Cable Failure
###Add Invoice ###
Approximately two months after arriving in Phoenix, the truck's shifter cable failed.
The repair was completed by Sun Devil Auto on Bell Road in Phoenix.
Based on later findings of rodent damage within the engine compartment, I now believe this failure may have been related because the shifter cable passes through the area where the rodents had nested.
No Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) documenting evidence of rodent activity appears to have been performed during this repair.
## June 28, 2025 — Digital Vehicle Inspection
A Digital Vehicle Inspection documented that the engine air filter appeared to be the same filter installed when I received the vehicle.
Based on photographs and later review by automotive professionals, the filter appeared to have been in service for an extended period and showed significant deterioration.
The inspection also documented evidence consistent with rodent activity in the engine compartment.
The truck had been driven regularly since purchase, making it unlikely that the substantial nesting material later discovered had accumulated solely during my ownership.
## October 18, 2025 — Purchase of Second Vehicle
Because the Titan had become increasingly unreliable, I purchased a Fiat 124 Spider from Carvana.
This purchase was made to maintain reliable transportation while determining the extent of the truck's mechanical problems.
## May 1, 2026 — Maintenance and Limp Mode
The truck was serviced at Cobblestone, where the rear differential fluid, coolant, engine oil, and fuel filter were replaced.
Immediately following this service, the truck entered limp mode.
I parked the vehicle for approximately two weeks while searching for a qualified technician capable of diagnosing the issue.
## May 8, 2026 — Transmission Service
Because the transmission began shifting abnormally, I brought the truck to AAMCO in Scottsdale.
A complete transmission service was performed at a cost of **$761**.
The service did not correct the transmission issues.
## June 26, 2026 — Major Engine Inspection
Based on a recommendation, I took the truck to Sun Devil Auto on Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard in Scottsdale.
Their Digital Vehicle Inspection documented significant findings, including:
* A damaged and split engine air filter.
* A softball-sized collection of rodent nesting material inside the engine intake system.
* Evidence of extensive rodent intrusion.
Repairs to address the engine damage totaled approximately **$5,500**.
## July 1, 2026 — Transmission Replacement
Following the engine repairs, I returned the truck to AAMCO.
The transmission required replacement with a remanufactured unit at a total cost of **$8,154.50**.
## July 9, 2026 — Additional Mechanical Failure
### Add Photo of Truck On Tow Truck ###
After picking up the truck, I drove it for approximately one day.
The vehicle remained underpowered and continued exhibiting mechanical problems.
Shortly thereafter, a pulley failed, causing the drive belt to come off.
I contacted Sun Devil Auto, and the truck was towed back to their facility.
## July 23, 2026 — Turbocharger Damage
I was informed that both the upper and lower turbochargers require replacement.
The estimated repair cost is **$6,873.88**.
At this stage, my documented out-of-pocket costs exceed **$40,000**, excluding lost income, business interruption, diminished vehicle value, and reputational damages.
# Attempts to Resolve the Matter
For approximately nine months, I repeatedly attempted to resolve these issues directly with Carvana.
During that time, I communicated through telephone calls, emails, and written correspondence requesting that my concerns be reviewed by personnel authorized to resolve the matter.
Copies of these communications, together with supporting documentation, will be added to the evidence section of this website.
The Contact Carvana section also contains the corporate contact information I collected while attempting to reach the appropriate department.
## July 22, 2026 — Executive Escalation
After locating Carvana's online chat system, I communicated with a representative named Sophia, who arranged for a call from the Executive Team at **1:30 PM on July 22, 2026**.
No call was received at the scheduled time.
At **1:47 PM**, I called Carvana and was eventually transferred to the Executive Team.
A recording of this conversation has been preserved and is included within the evidence section.
During the conversation, I advised the representative that my business telephone system records calls. The representative stated that he could not continue the conversation if I recorded it, despite Carvana also recording the call.
## July 22, 2026 — Executive Team Communications
**5:04 PM:** My assigned case manager contacted me.
This conversation was also recorded and preserved as evidence.
## July 23, 2026 — Claim Denied
I received written notification that Carvana had denied my claim.
Following that decision, I began publishing the documentation, evidence, and timeline associated with this matter on WeDriveYouUnhappy.com so that the events and supporting records could be made publicly available.

Photos, Videos & Evidence
This photo, the carvana.com listing of my vehicle from before I purchased it, shows the airbox is unlocked, and one can see the Orange boarder of the air filter. That same air filter is shown later, after the DVI from SuN Devil Auto in Scottsdale 6 months after purchase. That same DVI says the airbox was unlocked. I asked Jordan the executive Team Member from Carvana Corp if those photos indicate the truck is sellable, he responded and confirmed those photos are taken while it is listed.

If you listen, it's funny, at one point he tells me that he can not continue the call if I am recording the call, while acknowledging that they will continue to record the call.
Good thing we were both in Arizona, and it's a one party consent state. Also, we both concented to being recorded.
We discuss the process, the problems, the 9 calls they promised me which did not happen.
Recording and transcription on it's way.
I can't drive the truck again this month, so those costs get rolled into the mix.

Calculation basis: Upper and lower turbo needed to be replaced.
Sun Devil Auto wrote a letter confirming that this damage was done long ago.
This the DVI that was performed prior to them cleaning the intake, fixing the egr valves, air filter, valve, and the rest.
Total cost $5500 for these damages.
Notice the air filter, compare that seal around the outside to the photo from their website listing, same color filter showing. While looking at the photo of with the hood up, take a look at the clips for the air box, notice that it's open? Now take a look at the Sun Auto DVI from early 2025, they mention that those clips were not clipped.

20260626 - Sun Devil Auto DVI solid photo of the rat stuff and the air filter not changed by Carvana
in this DVI, we see a few things.
There is a note that the water pump is leaking. The truck had been driven 31,000 miles, and the 150 point vehicle inspection said it was 100% fine.
We also see that the air box wasn't locked shut, and we see that in the photos, and the narrative from the DVI says that.
We also see a photo of the airfilter needing a new one, with some of the rat nesting.
I was not made aware of this, or I would have paid the $100 or whatever for the filter, I always say yes to these things.
Ever had the shifter cable break on a vehicle? Yeah, neither had I. I'd bet the rat ate this too.
I was driving to a client, and went to back in at a client, when the shift lever moved with no pressure, it had broken. I left the client, suffered some lost work, as well as a hit to my reputation.
I found Sun Devil Auto on Bell Road was able to get me in, I drove up there, and they got me in immediately, and fixed the issue. They did not, unfortunately do a DVI.

Calculation basis: I lost several referrals, as well as the income I was onsite to earn.
This premium truck with every feature under the sun (Heated and cooled seats, remote start, leather seats, etc) was delivered with a cheap set of Walmart floor mats, not disclosed in the listing.
See the quality of the mats provided in the photo.
The driver backed the truck off their truck, right before I saw the check engine light.
20261004 - Delivery Day for the Nissan Titan XD Platnum Reserve from Carvana.com - Late by 2 hours
So on delivery day, the driver was 2 hours late.
While backing my truck off from their truck, the check engine light came on.
I called that out to the driver, he said, "I thought we turned that off for the vehicle inspection." This was said while I was recording with my AI device, and I have the video that shows the actions, from the 3rd floor balcony overlooking the scene.
I will not be making those public, but those are in this database, privately saved, ready for a Judge to hear.
The delivery was to my place in Durham, North Carolina.
The driver told me that if I reject the truck, I have to start all over at the beginning, and wait 2 weeks for my deposit, then I can begin the process again.
He plugged in his code reader, and looked up the codes, and found that it's an EGR valve, which my Chrysler 300 had an issue with the entire time I owned it, and that made it to 598,000 miles.
Turns out it was 2 EGR valves, in the engine, and $5500 worth of work to fix that.
This is a crop, showing the airbox is unlocked, and that we can see the orange of the airfilter.
6 months later, these are picked up in the DVI from Sun Devil Auto Scottsdale.
The window sticker for the truck.
This is carvana's form, claiming to have completed a 150 point inspection of the vehicle.
Notice in the listing, the airbox is not clipped, and one can see the air filter, the same air filter which has shown up over time in photos, adding to the proof that this rat lived in the engine before I owned the truck.
The Carvana.com Driver Delivers My Nissan Titan XD With The Check Engine Light On, then says on recording, "I thought we turned that off for the inspection."
